Zuma Beach is one of Los Angeles County's largest and most popular beaches, stretching two miles along the open Pacific coast in northern Malibu. The broad, exposed shoreline produces strong shore break at high tide and a wide, flat sand flat at low tide ideal for families.
The 4–5 ft Pacific tidal range creates a wide, flat sand flat at low tide ideal for family play and volleyball, while shore break intensifies at mid tide — the preferred window for bodyboarders and strong swimmers. Swimming is most comfortable at low to mid tide when the break is less powerful; surf fishing is productive along the exposed sand at low tide; there are no significant tide pools at this open-sand beach. Local note: nine paid parking lots line the PCH frontage; lifeguards are on duty year-round; dogs are not permitted on the main beach.
