Surfrider Beach at the mouth of Malibu Creek is one of the most storied surf breaks in California, famous for its long right-hand point break. Low tide exposes a wide cobblestone shoreline; high tide brings the best wave shape for longboarders.
The ~5 ft Pacific tidal range shapes conditions significantly here: the famous right-hand point break performs best at mid to high tide when water covers the cobblestones and the wave runs long and smooth; low tide exposes slippery rocks that make swimming and shelling impractical but reveals intertidal life along the rocky point. Surfing peaks from mid to high tide; shore fishing is productive at any tide along the sand flats west of the point; tide pools appear in the cobble at low tide near the creek mouth. Local note: PCH lot parking fills by 9 am on weekends; dogs are welcome year-round at the far western end of the beach.
