Manhattan Beach, CA

Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach is a clean residential beach anchored by a classic pier and known for strong, consistent shore break. The sandy bottom and regular south swells make it a year-round surf spot; low tide is best for exploring the rocky base of the pier.

The Pacific's 4–5 ft tidal range makes low tide the best time to explore the rocky pier base, where sea life is visible in crevices and small tide pools form at the concrete pilings. The consistent south-swell shore break is most surfable at mid tide; swimming is most comfortable at mid tide when break is manageable; fishing from the pier is productive year-round at any tide. Local note: street parking is limited and metered; the Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab & Aquarium at the pier end is free to visit and popular with families.
