Huntington Beach — "Surf City USA" — offers one of the longest uninterrupted stretches of sandy beach in Southern California. Consistent south swell creates reliable beach break year-round; low tide exposes a wide, flat shoreline excellent for long walks.
The 4–5 ft Pacific tidal range shapes the surfing experience significantly: the area near the pier is one of Southern California's most consistent surf spots, performing best at mid tide when the bank is covered and waves are most organized; low tide exposes the widest expanse of flat sand for walking, volleyball, and shelling. Swimming is comfortable at mid to low tide; shore fishing from the pier is productive year-round at any tide; tide pools are minimal at this sandy-bottom beach. Local note: paid parking lots line Pacific Coast Highway; the US Open of Surfing is held here each August, drawing large crowds to the pier area.
