Coronado Beach is consistently rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the United States, famous for its wide white sand and the iconic Hotel del Coronado. The position near San Diego Bay means gentler surf than open-coast beaches, with low tide revealing a vast expanse of flat sand.
The 4–5 ft Pacific tidal range is visible but gentle here given the protected setting near the bay entrance; low tide reveals a very broad, flat expanse of fine white sand ideal for long walks, family play, and shelling. Swimming is calm and comfortable at mid tide; there's no significant surf break; shore fishing is done along the beach at any tide; tide pools are minimal on the sandy bottom. Local note: free parking is available along Ocean Blvd and at Centennial Park near the north end, though spaces fill on weekends; the Hotel del Coronado grounds are open to walk through, and the historic building is worth seeing.
